About this role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented apprentice to join our Biogen Quality Control team in Solothurn. In this role, you will learn to perform analytical tests, support product quality assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards. You’ll gain hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, chemical analysis techniques, and data recording while working alongside experienced chemists. This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to develop technical skills, understand quality control processes, and build a strong foundation for a career in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.

What you will do and learn

  • Sample management: ordering consumables, prepare and handle laboratory samples
  • Plan, execute and document laboratory experiments
  • Sampling and testing of raw materials according to GMP specifications
  • Chemistry: drug product testing with basic chemistry methods and chromatography
  • Environmental monitoring: Testing samples for total organic content and conductivity
  • Lab support: preparation/review of chemical products and solutions, lab support, safety

You are curious about how things work, enjoys science experiments, and loves solving problems. You have a strong interest in chemistry and paying close attention to details. You are a hands-on learner, excited by practical activities in labs. Safety-conscious and eager to follow procedures, you thrive in structured environments. Motivated and inquisitive, you aim to explore the real-world applications of science.

Qualifications

Required skills

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to interpret experimental data, identify anomalies, and troubleshoot issues. Critical thinking to analyze results and propose improvements to procedures.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to follow precise instructions and protocols to ensure accurate results. Careful observation and documentation of experimental data without errors.
  • Basic laboratory techniques: Proficiency in handling laboratory equipment like pipettes, burettes, balances, and glassware. Knowledge of common procedures such as titration, filtration, and sample preparation.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Ability to clearly communicate findings both orally and in writing, including maintaining detailed lab notebooks and writing reports. Effective collaboration with colleagues, including taking and giving constructive feedback. Biogen working language and documentation is in English.
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding of laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling of chemicals, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and knowledge of emergency procedures. Awareness of chemical hazard symbols and safety data sheets (SDS).
